Most people know art makes my heart skip a beat (well so do food, music and shoes but whatever) but an art and charity combo is enough to make a girl...well...you know...

For their 15th Anniversary Juxtapoz is hosting an art auction where all proceeds will be donated to the Power House Project to help purchase and renovate foreclosed and abandoned homes in the Detroit area.

Upper Playground is hosting a viewing of the artwork and meet and greet with the artists November 14.

Barkley L. Hendricks : Birth of The Cool

I headed to the Santa Monica Museum of Art today for the Barkley Hendricks exhibit and I was blown away...The picture above titled "Sweet Thang" is the perfect example of his work... The light, the shading, the attention to detail is absolutely amazing...His paintings are so clear and crisp you'd think you were looking at a photograph...He captures the fashion and attitude of the times and of the people with such ease it can do nothing but amaze you...If you are in LA I suggest you catch the exhibit before it ends 8/22 its well worth it...

THE BOONDOCKS IS BACK!!! WOO HOO!!

Sorry... I was just so excited about this I think it warrants it's own post...Aaron McGruder will be bringing The Boondocks back to Adult Swim starting October 8th and I can't wait!!! The delay since last season was so long I was scared Huey and Riley weren't coming back but I'm thrilled they are...Shoulda known they were on CP Time...Hey better late than NEVER!!! The new episodes are to be filled with rappers and other black talent who lent their voices to the upcoming season... It's bound to be another season of black radicalness from Huey mixed with gangster antics from Riley...Sounds like the story of my life...

Jay...Jigga...Jazzy...Whatever You Wanna Call Him...

DOES indeed have a new album coming out...Nah Right is reporting that it's TRUE!!! Jay has a new album coming out...And I for one can't be happier...I mean did we really expect him to retire...How many rappers retire and actually stay retired? The NY Times is reporting the album will drop in early November...Read More and check The NY Times link over at Nah Right...

*On a side note...The portrait of Jay above is by one of my favorite young artists Cbabi Bayoc and it is available at the Bayoc Studio (which very honestly deserves a post of its own)...

ish...

Paris Hilton launched Rich Prosecco...This girl will put her face on about anything... I guess there's a market for champagne in a can...Altho I think Sofia conquered this market a few years ago and between them and the mini Moet...I don't really think we need another portable champagne...

Why do I have this bowl?!!! The one I have cost about $25...My boss picked it up in Amish Country!!!! Wonder if they know someone bit their ancient art of bowl making...Probably not...That's what happens when you shun technology...Peeps take yo ideas and start charging $75 for them...

Since when can an airline ask you to get off a flight for wearing revealing clothing? This 'fit ain't even THAT revealing! If it was me I'd sue too...

It was only a matter of time before someone figured out how to download free ringtones on the new iPhone...follow this link before they make them take it down! LOL!

Forbes also has info about unlocking the phone so you can use it with other carriers besides AT&T... Good ish...

Tokidoki X Onitsuka Tiger Collabo

We know I love Tokidoki and Tokidoki collabos (if you click collabos at the right about 4 tokidoki one's show up) but a Tokidoki X Asics Collabo?! It's like the collabo from heaven...I can't even believe it's happening...I've looked everywhere but there aren't any pics anywhere on the net to give hint as to what they might actually look like...Guess we'll hafta wait and see...Over at the Tokidoki blog Simone answers a few questions regarding the collabo in the comment section of his Sneaker Pimp post...Tell you one thing... I'm coppin' them when they come out...And yeah...I can say this without seeing the shoe...That's how much faith I have in Tokidoki and Asics...There will be 2 styles, 4 colors dropping in Spring 2008...Man that seems like a long time away...

MOCA X Murakami Collabo

I was soooo excited when I ran across this article in the LA Times...MOCA will be having an exhibit with Takashi Murakami this fall...The exhibit starts in October and will run until February...What's unusual about this exhibit is that there will be a Louis Vuitton pop up store in the middle of the museum...According to the Times, the items being sold at the pop up store will be marked around $300 higher than at the LV store...There will be at least one new item available at MOCA that will not be available anywhere else...A lot of people think this is some sort of conflict in interest but very honestly...I dunno... I think the melding of art and fashion is always good ish...Hey maybe they can get Kanye to perform at the opening reception...Now THAT would be hot...

In other MOCA news...In October they also have an exhibit opening titled "Black Panther: The Revolutionary Art of Emory Douglas" ...It is a collection of work Emory Douglas created while he was Minister of Culture for the Black Panther Party...The exhibit includes over 150 works and I can't wait to see it...If you really know me you'll know I'm a revolutionary at heart...Every now and then you'll even see me throw my fist in the air...The fact that MOCA recognizes the brillance of his graphic design enough to present it to the next generation is why they're my favorite museum (sorry LACMA)...Check it out...Feed your inner-renaissance man...and oh yeah...Power to The People...

I invite those of you on the west coast to come have a drink with me, and check out my newest body of work. I started to clean out my studio, and I keep running across pieces that have slipped into the storage corners of my studio. Many of these pieces have been sold out for years, so this will be your last chance to pick up the pieces.

Bodega Avenue

I fell in love with The Boondocks back in 2000 when they were relatively new...This was way before Riley even started growing corn rows...The characters reminded me so much of people I actually knew and could relate to that I signed up to have it delivered to my inbox every day... Well when Aaron McGruder went a lil Dave Chappelle last year and just stopped writing the strip abruptly it left a hole in my heart that I was still trying to fill...Until now...

While reading the current issue of Latina I came across a quick article about Bodega Ave. so I had to check it out...

Bodega Ave. is the brainchild of Tara Lopez, Tatiana Suarez Pico, and Aurin Squire. It's a pop fantasy and ridiculous satire based on a bunch of pre-teens in Brooklyn. The diverse cast of kids reflects not only upon New York but most of America. Many of the stories come from personal experience and memories of growing up amidst a neighborhood of dredlocks, braids, and jewfros. The cartoon is about growing up weird and out of place in the world. For those of you, who’ve ever felt the same way as a child or adult, Bodega Ave. is the place for you

The fact that they are multicultural was enough to grab my interest...In NY I know it's more common to see black Latinos but trust... growing up in LA it was a little difficult sometimes explaining to the other kids in the 'hood why my family was speaking spanish (especially when I look black and Chinese...when I was young they thought I was a Vietnam war baby my mom adopted...She used to get so heated! comedy!) Anyway these kids are HILARIOUS...Ale and Julian are brother and sister and they are Latino (what kind...I'm not quite sure...I'm guessing Puerto Rican)...Edgar and Sven are twin brothers and they are an Irish/Dominicano mix...Haruko is a Black/Japanese mix (but she can speak Spanish)...Caren is Jewish which leaves Esperanza who is also Latina but I'm not quite sure what...Anyway check them out...I'm sure you can relate to one of them...They're pretty funny kids...

Oh yeah...Si usted prefiere leer en español

Braggin' Rights...

I was running through the mall... NOT shopping... I was literally supposed to be running through the mall with my friend... Then I saw a tokidoki hoodie in the window and I had to stop in Planet Funk to see what else they had goin' on in there...Now this is a store I've been in once about 7 years ago because someone gave me a gift certificate...Needless to say I was very happy I went in...I came out with this wifebeater that just speaks for itself...The art..The Ode to LA...I had to brag about it...
